Raman Systems announces that its products now can be configured to see the radial breathing modes that are so important in working with Carbon Nanotubes.  The lower end of our spectral range can be set for 130 cm-1.  A spectrum from a sample supplied by one of our customers was recorded with our R3000QE.  Three views of the spectrum, the entire spectrum, an enlarged view showing the range from 100 to 350 cm-1, and an enlarged view showing the range from 1200 to 1700 cm-1 can be seen by clicking here.

Advantages and working of the Probe

The RSI fiber-optically coupled probe can easily be used for solids or liquids in the open, solids or liquids in transparent containers, and as an immersion probe with liquid samples. The probe comes standard with sample tubes and probe "caps" -- accessories that provide easy transferability between samples (solids, tablets, powders, liquids, and the like) in transparent containers and in immersion applications.

There are two focusing caps: one focuses the laser beam on the samples as the cap is pressed against the sample; the other focuses the laser on the inside of containers when the cap is pressed against the outside wall. The sample tube either without a cap or with either of the two focusing caps can be used for immersion measurements.

Additionally, there is a cap for calibration; it has a pre-loaded spectroscopic standard that allows for quick, software-controlled instrument calibration and verification. For corrosive environments, the tube and cap can be made from Hastelloy-C. The tube and caps will normally withstand up to 1500 psi and up to 200° C; however, they can be made to withstand up to 3000 psi and up to 500° C. The probe head and fiber cable will withstand up to 80° C.

For added eye safety, the probe contains a software-controlled shutter that is normally closed and opens only when a measurement is being taken. The shutter allows dark scans to be taken without turning the laser on and off. The sample holder shown above comes with every RSI product and can be purchased individually. It is set for a range of sizes of bottles and vial containers. When the sample holder is combined with the shutter, you have a completely eye safe operation.
